SGI Compliance has its origins in the Netherlands, where it was founded in 2003 under the name Shield Group. In the following years, Shield Group invested in the extension of knowledge and expertise in the field of hazardous substances and microbiology through growth and acquisitions. These organizations still form the basis of our contemporary expertise in consultancy, advice, project management and laboratory activities.
Our laboratory was originally founded in Belgium, where it was founded in 1985 under the name Fibrecount. Since 1992 it has been active in the Netherlands under the same name. Our Consultancy branch was founded in 1999 under the name Oesterbaai, an engineering firm in the field of risk and compliance issues. In addition to our laboratory services for hazardous materials and fibers, such as asbestos, we expanded in 2000 with a microbiology laboratory. At the time known under the name Alex Stewart Bioconsult. Since the foundation of Shield Group in 2003, all activities of Fibrecount, Bioconsult and Oesterbaai have been merged. In 2012 and 2013, Shield Group expanded its activities through the purchase of Fire Safety Consultancy DAC. Shortly thereafter, we acquired microbiological laboratory Intersafe Groeneveld in 2013. In order to be able to offer good national coverage for our service in the same year, ABS and Quality Group are affiliated with the Shield Group. In 2017, Shield Group with all its subsidiaries consolidated with the Kiwa brand. Shield Group was part of the Kiwa Group as a separate business unit for more than five years. In 2019 we found a partner in LDC for our growth strategy, whereby we continued independently, separate from the Kiwa Group, while remaining strategic business partners. This new initiative is progress, whereby we can fully focus on our core qualities, under the new brand SGI Compliance.
