
One of the ways to research chrome-6 is to use a rapid test. The rapid test is seen as a tempting alternative to the regular examination. However, in practice we regularly observe deviations in measurement results.
These deviations are both false positive and false negative and each have their own undesirable consequences. The rapid test consists of a solution of chemicals that react by discoloration when they make a connection with, among other things, chromium-6. For example, you can measure false positives based on other chemicals in your measurement sample, after which you have to take expensive additional control measures that would probably be unnecessary.
The false negative measurement results pose a greater danger. For example, the combination of chromium-6 and zinc in certain concentrations (situations) can ensure that you do not observe discoloration or that discoloration occurs that is almost imperceptible. As a result, emission of chromium-6 will occur during blasting, sawing or grinding. Due to the exposure to people and the environment, we see with clients that these types of measurement deviations often result in calamities with all the associated consequences and costs.
